The early years of your child’s life are the most formative. They are constantly taking in their surroundings and learning without even realizing it. They are making their way while building up confidence and finding the things that get them excited! One of the best things you can do is find regular activities that feed into their imagination. Lucky for you, our city has a lot! As a Chicago-area family photographer, I adore working with families to make every second feel memorable. Here are my favorite things to do in Chicago with toddlers!
1200 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60605
Shedd Aquarium gives your toddlers the chance to get up close and personal with the critters of the ocean in Chicago. They give you a number of different options for your experience, so each trip feels totally unique. There are sea otters, sharks, penguins, jellyfish, and more. The aquarium offers an easy-to-navigate app so you can get to know each and every creature you meet along the way. Be sure to buy your ticket ahead of time because they tend to sell out fast!
2001 N. Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois 60614
If your Chicago toddler just can’t get enough of animals, the Lincoln Park Zoo is going to be their new favorite place! Located on 35 acres, the zoo takes your family on a trip around the world. Your child will get to meet African penguins, Jamaican iguanas, and Japanese Macaques. You can also take a ride on the 20th-century Lionel Train or go for a spin on the Endangered Species Carousel. The zoo has the perfect thing for kids of all ages!
700 East Grand Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60611
Chicago Children’s Museum is the best spot for toddlers who love to take a hands-on approach to learning! The museum is full of exhibits created for kids of all ages. Kids Town, in particular, is a fabulous spot for younger explorers. In this area, tots can roam around a pretend village, shopping for groceries and driving a CTA bus. Each activity was designed to ignite their imaginations while expanding their vocab. There is also an art studio, climbing gyms, dino digs, and so much more!
337 E. Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois 60601
If you need a way to get out and enjoy the weather, Play Garden is your spot! This area offers 3 acres where your child can unleash all their energy. Older siblings can spend hours racing down the Slide Crater while younger kids can climb on the Wave Lawn. On those really hot days, you can pack some water shoes so your child can cool off at The Watering Hole–an interactive splash pad themed around sea creatures. No matter how your child wants to explore, this park has just the place!
