With a vibrant urban culture, rich diversity, and some pretty mediocre sports teams (but we love them anyway!), it’s a great city to call home. It’s also, however, a great place to raise a family, especially if you know where to look! It’s an excellent neighborhood for families, with plenty of parks, outdoor play spaces, seasonal festivals, and even a beautiful farmer’s market from June through October. Check out music classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music, family yoga at Bloom Yoga studio, or catch a Cartoon Brunch at the Davis Theatre!

Rogers Park

Rogers Park is a beautifully diverse neighborhood home to over 60 spoken languages! With all that great culture comes various amazing restaurants with authentic food from around the world. It’s also a very artsy part of the city. Moreover, it’s home to the Glenwood Avenue Arts District, which features sprawling murals, art studios and galleries, theaters, and so much more. It’s also close to the sandy shoreline with beautiful parks and beaches for a day exploring Lake Michigan, making it one of the best Chicago neighborhoods for families!

Edison Park is a great urban neighborhood that is a little further removed from the heart of the city. This semi-suburban area makes for an easy commute into the city while providing plenty of family-friendly amenities and attractions – many of which are within a walkable distance! They’re known for their popular family-friendly restaurants and cafes and beautiful neighborhoods and parks that are perfect for stretching your legs and getting some fresh air. 

Forest Glen

Forest Glen is a great place to raise a family, with easy-to-navigate streets and made up of mostly single-family homes. It’s home to plenty of great family-friendly attractions and activities, too! Take a bike ride or a walk on North Branch Trail, or explore the beautiful Caldwell Woods nearby. Check out a storytime at the local branch of the Chicago Public Library, or spend the day on Edgebrook Golf Course. There are also plenty of great restaurants, coffee shops, and diners for a delicious meal that everyone in the family can enjoy.
