4 Chicago Beaches to Visit with Your Family!

Montrose Beach

Montrose Beach is located near the Uptown neighborhood and is one of the popular Chicago Beaches. This Chicago beach is one of Chicago’s oldest and largest parks, and more than 1,000 acres of the beach are wholly made from landfills. This beach offers amenities that include food concessions, kayak rentals, volleyball rentals, showers, and restrooms. Not only can your family and kids enjoy the beach, but a dog-friendly beach is located at the north end of the beach. At the south end, a dune habitat houses endangered plant life, so you never know what kind of animals you may see! The park is open every season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) from 11 am to 7 pm when a lifeguard is on duty. Montrose Beach is a great way to spend the day soaking up the sun with the family.

Lane Beach

Lane Beach Park is one of the 18 beaches as part of the Chicago Park District. The beach park offers beachgoers a chance to enjoy the shorelines of Lake Michigan while soaking in some rays. This Chicago beach is next to the Edgewater neighborhood and includes a soft-surface playground for the little ones to enjoy. Lane Beach is open from 11 am to 7 pm when a lifeguard is on duty every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Lane Beach is one of many of the Chicago Beaches and is a great place to go and spend a day outside and enjoy what nature has to offer.

Rainbow Beach Park includes a beach, a comfort station, a community garden, basketball/ tennis/ handball courts, a baseball field, and two playgrounds. The park also offers seasonal afterschool programs, seasonal sports, arts and crafts, and youth and adult fitness classes. Special holiday-themed events are also fun for the entire family throughout the year. The park is open from 6 am to 11 pm. However, the indoor spaces are available from 8:30 am to 7 pm.

Humboldt Beach

Humboldt Beach is a newly improved Natural Swimming Beach that was redesigned and separated from the existing lagoon into a low-maintenance, chemical-free, and environmentally sustainable natural swimming pond. This beach is Chicago’s only beach inland spanning 219 acres that features a fitness center, two gymnasiums, and meeting rooms. In addition to the beach, there is a turf soccer field, lagoon, baseball field, tennis courts, and playgrounds.
