Cancer can be such an isolating experience. While so many of us will fight it at one point or another, it has the tendency to make you feel like you are the only one who understands your experience. This is exactly why Imerman Angels was founded. This unique community is stationed all across the globe to help people find a supportive group for every step of their fight. As a Chicago family photographer and a cancer survivor myself, I love working with my clients to honor their unique journeys. Here is why I think you are going to love Imerman Angels!
2001 N. Halsted St., Suite 302, Chicago, Illinois 60614
While Imerman Angels might work all across the world, they are centered right here in Chicago! The group was co-founded by Jonny Imerman after he received a testicular cancer diagnosis at the age of 26. At the time, Jonny felt the love and support of his friends, but he didn’t have the guidance of a person who had been through it before. So, he decided he was going to pave the way for future fighters. He worked with fellow advocates to create the group in 2006, and they’ve been working hard ever since! They have helped thousands of people to find their community through this journey.

If you are looking for support throughout your fight, you can head over to the Imerman Angels website and request to be matched with a mentor. This center is completely devoted to personalizing how you find care. They ditch the algorithm and instead hand-pick every match to ensure you have a person who perfectly fits your needs. In the process, they will consider factors such as age, gender, and cancer type. Their community is made up of people who have gone through similar stories and experiences. They assist fighters, survivors, previvors, and caregivers to find the support they need. You will also be able to choose whether you want an in-person, local mentor or prefer a virtual friend you can contact at any point. All of these services are completely free to access.

So, what about when you enter remission? If you found Imerman Angels to be helpful to you, you can choose to become a mentor angel. To get started, all you have to do is complete your mentor profile. From there, they will screen your application and then train you. You will be placed into a database where you will be contacted once you have a compatible mentee.
If you are looking for a supportive community to get you through your cancer journey, I really think you are going to adore Imerman Angels! Head to their website and find your mentor so you never have to face a single second alone.
